Updated: 4 October 2026
Bihar does subsidise a tractor for an individual farmer, but the scheme is a lottery and the window is short. Bihar's farm mechanization scheme runs on the OFMAS portal, farmech.bihar.gov.in, and its 2026-27 list of 86 machines is reported to include tractors within a 40 to 80 percent band. The 2026-27 window ran from 8 to 30 September 2026 and has closed. No next round is announced.
Guides name the tractor as a mini tractor of 18 to 20 PTO HP, with 40 percent for general farmers and 50 percent for SC, ST and Extremely Backward Class farmers. The rupee ceiling quoted by guides differs, so the table below uses the national SMAM norm. Bihar's own rate card is on the portal. National rules are on the tractor subsidy page.
Scheme and portal names
- Scheme: Krishi Yantrikaran Yojana under SMAM, with a budget of ₹236.58 crore for 2026-27, as reported by Amar Ujala.
- Portals: OFMAS (Online Farm Mechanization Application Software) at farmech.bihar.gov.in, and the DBT Agriculture registration at dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.
- Other lines: 267 custom hiring centres, 38 agricultural machinery banks, 200 special centres for crop residue management and 480 drone centres.
Rates by category
| Item | General farmer | SC, ST, small, marginal, women |
|---|---|---|
| Tractor 2WD, 8 to 20 PTO HP | 40%, up to ₹1.60 lakh | 50%, up to ₹2.00 lakh |
| Tractor 2WD, above 20 to 40 PTO HP | 40%, up to ₹2.00 lakh | 50%, up to ₹2.50 lakh |
| Tractor 2WD, above 40 to 70 PTO HP | 40%, up to ₹3.40 lakh | 50%, up to ₹4.25 lakh |
These rows are the national SMAM table, revised 2018-19. Bihar's use of the higher HP bands is not confirmed, because guides name only mini tractors of 18 to 20 PTO HP. Guides also quote ceilings of ₹1.5 lakh and ₹3.4 lakh, which cannot both be right.
| Centre | Tractor support | Source year |
|---|---|---|
| Custom hiring centre (267 units) | Tractor up to 35 BHP: ₹1,60,000 | 2025-26 round |
| Special crop residue centre | Tractor up to 55 PTO HP: ₹3 lakh | 2025-26 round |
Other items run on the 40 to 80 percent band. Custom hiring centres get 40 percent up to ₹4 lakh and machinery banks 80 percent up to ₹8 lakh, as reported.
Eligibility and documents
- Registration on the DBT Agriculture portal is needed first.
- Documents named: Aadhaar, land record or self-declaration, bank account details, and a caste certificate for an enhanced rate.
- CMV360 reports conditions for tractors: the farmer should not already own one, should not have taken a similar subsidy in the last 5 years, and should buy at least one more implement with it.
How selection works
Selection is by online lottery, not first come. Selected farmers get a permit valid for 15 days.
Application steps
- Register on dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in with Aadhaar.
- Open farmech.bihar.gov.in and log in with the registration ID.
- Choose the equipment, upload the documents and submit. Save the reference number.
- Wait for the lottery result.
- If selected, download the permit and pay the dealer in full within 15 days.
- Upload the bill. A physical verification follows.
- The subsidy comes to the bank account by DBT.
Guides give these steps, not the portal, so follow the screen. Filing is free. Report anyone asking for a fee.
Dates
The 2026-27 round took applications from 8 to 30 September 2026. A next date is not published.
If you miss the round
- Check ex-showroom prices on tractors and the full cost on the on-road price tool.
- Compare finance on the tractor loan page and use the EMI calculator.
- See tractor dealers and implements, and check the subsidy finder.
Planning the money around the lottery
- The subsidy is the lower of the percentage and the rupee ceiling. A tractor costing more than the ceiling divided by the percentage gets the ceiling only.
- The farmer pays the dealer in full and the subsidy follows by DBT after verification, so the balance must be arranged first.
- With a permit valid for 15 days, a loan sanction that is already ready avoids losing a selected slot.
- A farmer not selected can apply again in the next round, once it is announced.
Who to contact
Krishi Times names the District Agricultural Officer and the Assistant Director (Agricultural Engineering). SkillUp Bihar lists 0612-2233555 for fee complaints, which is a guide's figure and not confirmed.
