What Makes Up a Tractor's On-Road Price
The ex-showroom price is what the manufacturer and dealer charge for the tractor itself, with 5% GST already inside it. To drive it home you also pay for registration and the number plate, first-year insurance, and in a few states a small road tax. Buyers on loan add the lender's hypothecation and processing charges. For a farm tractor these add-ons are small compared with a car, because most states do not tax a tractor that is used only for agriculture.
| Item | Typical amount |
|---|---|
| Registration and number plate | ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 in most states |
| First-year comprehensive insurance | 1.5% to 2% of the ex-showroom price |
| Road tax (farm use) | Nil in most states |
| Loan charges, if financed | Hypothecation about ₹1,500, processing ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 |

The exemption applies to a tractor registered for agriculture and used on the farm. A tractor used for commercial haulage, or a trailer registered for hire, is taxed in every state. Once you have the on-road figure, work out the monthly payment with the tractor loan EMI calculator, compare models on the tractor price pages, find authorised dealers near you, and check what your old machine is worth with the used tractor valuation tool.
