What is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi?

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (प्रधानमंत्री किसान सम्मान निधि) is a central government income-support scheme for land-holding farmer families across India. Every eligible farmer receives ₹6,000 per year in three installments of ₹2,000 each, transferred directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank account. The scheme is administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and covers approximately 9-10 crore farmer families. This is outright income support - there is nothing to repay.

The key to receiving every installment on time is keeping three things current: your eKYC on the portal or at a CSC, your bank account Aadhaar-seeding so direct benefit transfer reaches you, and your land record mutation so land is recorded in your name. This guide covers all three, shows you what every status message means, and tells you exactly how to fix each type of rejection.

How to Check Your PM Kisan Status (3 Methods)

Go to pmkisan.gov.in → Farmers Corner → Beneficiary Status. You can search by any of the following:

  1. Aadhaar Number - most reliable; use this whenever possible.
  2. Registration Number - provided when you first registered for PM Kisan.
  3. Mobile Number - the number you entered during registration (may differ from your current number).

After entering your details, click "Get Data". You will see a record of every installment - whether it was transferred, is pending, or was rejected - along with the date and the bank account that received payment. If one method shows nothing, try all three before concluding you are not registered.

PM Kisan eKYC - Why It Is Mandatory and 3 Ways to Complete It

eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) links your Aadhaar identity to your PM Kisan account so the government can verify that payments reach the right person. The Ministry of Agriculture made eKYC mandatory from 2022 - farmers without completed eKYC do not receive their installment, even if they meet every other eligibility criterion. Do it before the installment window opens.

Method 1 - OTP online (easiest, from home):
  1. Go to pmkisan.gov.in, click "eKYC" under Farmers Corner
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number and click "Search"
  3. An OTP is sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar
  4. Enter the OTP to complete eKYC

⚠️ Requires your mobile linked to Aadhaar. If not linked, use Method 2 or 3.

Method 2 - Face authentication via PM Kisan app:
  1. Download the "PM Kisan" app from Google Play Store
  2. Log in with your registered mobile number
  3. Select "Face Auth" and scan your face using the front camera
  4. Aadhaar verifies your identity via face recognition

No Aadhaar-mobile linking needed; works best in good light.

Method 3 - CSC biometric (offline, works for all):
  1. Visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or gram panchayat with Aadhaar
  2. The operator scans your fingerprint against your Aadhaar record
  3. eKYC is completed instantly on successful match

Most reliable for elderly farmers or those without Aadhaar-linked mobiles.

How to Register as a New Farmer

  1. Visit pmkisan.gov.in → Farmers Corner → New Farmer Registration
  2. Choose Rural or Urban Farmer Registration based on your location
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number, select your state, and enter your mobile number
  4. Fill in personal details (name, father's name, date of birth, gender, category)
  5. Enter bank account details (account number and IFSC code - must be in your own name)
  6. Enter land details (survey number, khasra or khatauni as per your records)
  7. Submit and complete eKYC when prompted

You can also register offline at any Common Service Centre (CSC), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), or your block agriculture office. The patwari or village revenue officer can help with land details.

💡 Before you register: Make sure your land records are updated in your name. If the land is still in a parent's or grandparent's name, mutation is the single most common reason first-time registrations get rejected. See our land records guide for how to check and update records in your state.
