What MSP means for your income

Minimum Support Price is the floor the government guarantees for notified crops. When the mandi price falls below MSP, government agencies step in and buy at MSP, protecting you from a crash. Knowing the MSP before you sow helps you choose crops, and knowing it at harvest tells you whether to sell in the open mandi or at a procurement centre. Compare each crop's MSP with its live mandi price before deciding.

MSP is announced twice a year by the Cabinet on the advice of the CACP: Kharif crops around June and Rabi crops around October. We track every announcement and update this page the same day, so bookmark it or get a WhatsApp alert above.

What is MSP (Minimum Support Price / Samarthan Mulya)? +

MSP is the guaranteed price at which government agencies buy certain crops directly from farmers, so prices do not fall below a floor. It is announced by the Cabinet on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), based on the cost of production plus a margin.

When is MSP announced? +

MSP for Kharif crops is announced before the monsoon sowing (around June) and for Rabi crops before the winter sowing (around October). The current Kharif MSP (2026-27) was announced in May 2026 and Rabi (2026-27) in October 2025.

How do I actually sell my crop at MSP? +

Register on your state procurement portal, get your crop graded at a notified procurement centre or APMC mandi during the procurement window, and sell to the government agency (FCI, NAFED, state agencies). Keep your land records, bank account and Aadhaar ready. Not all crops are procured everywhere, so check your state.

Is MSP the same as the mandi price? +

No. MSP is a guaranteed floor for notified crops at procurement; the mandi (market) price is what traders pay daily and can be above or below MSP. Compare both before selling. Each crop page here links to its live mandi price.
