basmati MSP market price private buyer export

Basmati paddy is not covered under MSP and is sold at market rates to private buyers, millers and exporters, so prices vary with export demand and variety. Government MSP applies to common and Grade A non-basmati paddy, currently Rs 2,369 and Rs 2,389 per quintal for KMS 2025-26. Basmati like Pusa 1121 and 1718 can fetch higher rates than MSP in good years because of export demand, but prices can also fall sharply, so it carries more market risk. Watch APEDA export trends, sell when rates are strong, and keep grain dry and clean for top grade. Some states announce a bonus or special arrangements in poor price years, so check locally.
1121 rate jumps around with export news. I sell in parts, not all at once, to average the price.
Because there is no MSP safety net, grain quality decides your price. Clean, well dried, long grain 1121 fetched me a clear premium over moist or mixed lots in the Kaithal mandi.
