Sona Masoori rice variety duration yield quality

Sona Masoori (BPT 5204) is a popular fine grain, medium-slender variety widely grown in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, valued for its taste and light, aromatic cooked rice. It is a medium to long duration variety of about 135 to 145 days and gives good market demand and price for table rice. It is sensitive to BPH, blast and bacterial leaf blight, so use balanced fertiliser, avoid excess nitrogen, and follow IPM. Yield is moderate compared to high yielding coarse varieties, but the premium price for quality often makes it worthwhile. Source certified seed and follow your state package of practices.
Sona Masoori sells well in our mandi. I keep nitrogen in check or it lodges and gets neck blast.
In Karnataka it is the main table rice and buyers know it by name. Just be ready for BPH, it hit my crop badly one year. Keep wider spacing and drain the field if hoppers build up.
