A good paddy yield in irrigated conditions is roughly 25 to 30 quintals per acre (about 6 to 7.5 tonnes per hectare) for high yielding coarse varieties, while basmati and fine varieties usually give less, around 18 to 25 quintals per acre. Yields depend heavily on variety, water, soil, fertility and pest management. Many farmers in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh reach the higher end with good management, while rainfed and lowland crops give less. To push yield use certified seed, balanced fertiliser with zinc, timely transplanting at proper spacing, AWD water management and prompt pest and disease control. Compare your figure with your district average to judge performance.

I touched 28 quintals per acre with PR variety after fixing spacing and splitting urea. Spacing made a big difference.

Do not compare your fine or basmati yield with coarse paddy figures. My 1121 gives fewer quintals but the rate makes up for it. Judge by income per acre, not just quintals.

In rainfed lowland here the yield is naturally lower, and that is normal. Chasing Punjab numbers on poor water is not realistic. Compare against your own district average like the team says.

Healthy nursery and timely transplanting lifted my yield more than any extra fertiliser. Late, overgrown seedlings cost me a few quintals before I fixed the timing.
