Is hiring a combine harvester cheaper than manual harvesting?

For most medium and large wheat or paddy farms, hiring a combine harvester is cheaper and faster than manual cutting and threshing, especially when labour is scarce at peak season. A combine cuts, threshes and cleans in one pass, finishing acres in hours and reducing the risk of weather damage to a standing ripe crop. It is usually hired per acre or per hour, so you avoid owning a costly machine. For very small or irregular fields, or lodged crops, manual harvest may still suit. Book the combine early in the season because demand peaks, and consider attaching a straw management system or baler so residue is not wasted or burned.
