In Madhya Pradesh, the Sehore-Vidisha belt is famous for premium sharbati wheat, traditionally from the variety C-306 and similar quality types that fetch a price premium for their golden grain and taste. For higher yield under irrigation, popular choices include GW 322, GW 366, JW 3382, HI 1544 and Pusa varieties suited to central India. For durum (pasta) wheat, varieties like HI 8759 (Pusa Tejas) and MPO 1215 do well in MP and often sell at a premium. Choose timely-sown irrigated varieties for full yield, and grow the sharbati or durum types if you have a buyer paying a premium for quality grain.

In Sehore the sharbati premium is real. Traders pay more for the golden grain. I keep some area in quality wheat and the rest in high-yield varieties.

For plain high yield under irrigation, GW 322 has been a dependable workhorse in my area near Sehore. It is not the premium grain, but it fills the godown reliably while my quality plot earns the premium.

One caution on sharbati types like C-306: they yield less than the modern high-yield varieties, so the premium has to be worth the lower output. Work out the maths with your buyer's rate before putting your whole farm into quality wheat.

Durum wheat such as Pusa Tejas has done well for me in the black soil here and a nearby mill pays extra for it. It needs good irrigation and management, so do not grow it on a water-short plot.
