For high yield in Haryana under timely-sown irrigated conditions, the top choices are DBW 327 (Karan Shivani), DBW 303 (Karan Vaishnavi), DBW 222 (Karan Narendra) and HD-3086. DBW 327 has shown very high yield potential in trials, around 80 plus quintals per hectare, with good heat tolerance and resistance to yellow and brown rust. DBW 303 also gives strong yields and good chapatti quality. These IIWBR Karnal varieties are well suited to your district. Pick certified seed of two varieties to spread your risk, and match the variety to your sowing date, since some perform better in timely sowing than late.

DBW 327 did very well on my farm near Karnal last season. Strong plant, did not lodge, and the grain weight was good. I am sowing it again.

I would add HD-3086 to the list. It has been steady for me in Kurukshetra for several seasons with good chapatti quality, and seed is easy to get. Mixing one new variety with one proven one is a safe way to try the latest releases.

A caution from my side: buy only certified seed with a tag and bill. The first year I tried DBW 303 I bought loose seed from a shop and germination was poor. The next year certified seed from the co-op gave a much better stand.

Whatever variety you pick, get a soil test done first. On my saline patch near Panipat even a top variety gave average yield until I fixed the soil. Variety helps, but the base has to be right too.
