A Happy Seeder lets you drill wheat directly into standing paddy stubble without burning, cutting and lifting the straw while sowing in one pass. It avoids stubble burning (which is penalised and harms soil), retains the straw as mulch that conserves moisture and suppresses weeds, and saves a tillage operation. It needs a tractor with enough HP (commonly around 50 plus) because cutting heavy stubble takes power. Many state schemes and the crop residue management programme offer subsidies on such machines, often through custom hiring centres; confirm the current rate and procedure with your local agriculture department before buying.

I used a Happy Seeder for three seasons now. No burning, the straw mulch keeps moisture and my wheat does well. You need a strong tractor though, my 45 HP struggled, a 55 HP friend had no issue.

Got mine through the custom hiring centre with subsidy under the residue management scheme. Saved on the stubble burning fine and the field health improved. Check your block office for the current subsidy.
