direct seeded rice seed rate per acre kg

For DSR (direct seeded rice) use about 8 to 10 kg seed per acre (roughly 20 to 25 kg per hectare) sown with a DSR drill or lucky seed drill at 20 cm row spacing and 2 to 3 cm depth. Treat seed with a fungicide and biofertiliser, and sow into well levelled fields after a pre-sowing irrigation. Apply a pre-emergence herbicide like pendimethalin within 1 to 2 days of sowing, then a post-emergence herbicide such as bispyribac sodium around 20 to 25 days after sowing for grassy and broadleaf weeds. Apply the first irrigation about 21 days after sowing, then at 7 to 10 day intervals. Confirm exact herbicide doses with your local KVK.
I keep 9 kg per acre for basmati DSR. Too much seed makes thick crop and more disease.
Seed treatment is not optional in DSR. Birds and early seedling rot took my thin patches the first year. A good fungicide plus careful, even drilling fixed the stand the next season.
