Start small with basic value addition: clean and sort the produce, grade by size and colour, and add a simple polisher or grinder and a sealing and weighing setup for branded packs, since clean graded and well packed spice fetches more than raw loose lots. For powder you need a clean dust controlled grinding area and proper packing, plus food safety registration (FSSAI) and hygiene compliance, which is a must for selling packed food. Begin with whole and graded sales, then move to powder once you have a market, since powder spoils faster and needs good packing and shelf life. A farmer producer organisation can share the cost of machines. Check machinery subsidy, FSSAI registration and food grade norms with your KVK, the food processing department and a local FPO.

We did this through our FPO so the grader and packing machine cost was shared. FSSAI registration is not hard but you must have it before you sell packed powder, traders ask for it now.

Start with clean graded whole spice before jumping to powder. Powder spoils faster and needs good airtight packing and a shelf life, and an unsold powder stock goes stale on you. I built up the powder side only after I had steady buyers.

Ask the food processing department about the machinery subsidy before you buy, we got part of the cost supported. And keep the grinding area clean and dust controlled, the buyers and the FSSAI inspection both check hygiene now.

Even just clean grading and a tidy branded pack lifted my rate before I bought any grinder. Buyers paid more for the sorted uniform lot over the mixed loose one. Get the cleaning and grading right first, the powder line can come later once the money is there.
