For Goa and the Konkan, the Vengurla series varieties such as Vengurla 4 and Vengurla 7 are well proven high yielders with good nut size, and some Vengurla types also show relatively lower tea mosquito bug susceptibility. Other regional releases like Ullal and Bhaskara types suit nearby areas. Plant grafts, not seedlings, of a recommended variety to get true to type high yield and early bearing, usually at a spacing of about 7 to 8 m, with high density planting at closer spacing managed by pruning in some systems. Provide good drainage, basin manuring and a few protective sprays against tea mosquito bug. Confirm the currently recommended varieties for Goa with your KVK or the cashew research station.

Use grafts, never seedlings, if you want good yield and big uniform nuts. Seedling trees are a lottery. My Vengurla grafts bear earlier and the nut size is consistent.

Bold big nuts fetch a better rate from the processors here. The improved Vengurla types gave me bigger nuts than my old seedling trees. Worth replanting the old garden with grafts.

Buy grafts only from a reliable nursery or the research station. The market is full of cheap grafts sold under famous variety names that turn out to be something else after years of waiting. Pay a bit more for a guaranteed true to type graft, you cannot fix a wrong variety once it is in the ground.

If you can add a small processing or even basic grading step, the apple and bold nuts earn more than selling raw nuts to the first trader. I started grading my nuts and the processor paid a better rate for the bold uniform lot.

Plan a little for the long wait, grafts bear earlier than seedlings but still take a few years to come to full yield. I intercropped with pineapple and some vegetables in the early years so the land earned something while the cashew grew.
