Mallika is a hybrid of Neelum and Dasheri, combining the regular bearing and disease tolerance of Neelum with the eating quality of Dasheri. The fruit is medium to large, oblong, with rich, very sweet, fibreless deep-orange pulp, a thin stone, and a strong aroma, and it is widely rated among the best-tasting Indian dessert mangoes; it has a strong following in export and gourmet markets abroad. It is a fairly regular bearer and a mid to late season variety with good keeping quality, which makes it suitable for both serious commercial growing and home orchards. It does well across the southern and central mango belts. Its main commercial appeal is premium dessert and export demand combined with more dependable bearing than the classic north Indian varieties.
