What is the MSP of tur (arhar) for 2025-26 season?

Tur paid me well last year in Marathwada because open market rate was even above MSP for a while. Input cost is low compared to cotton, so even average yield gives decent profit.

Growing tur as an intercrop with soybean or cotton stretches the profit further because one harvest already covers a lot of the cost before tur is even ready. On its own on rainfed land tur is a low risk crop for me, but I never bank on the high open market price lasting.

A word of caution on the open rate: it swings a lot year to year with imports and total production. The year everyone planted extra tur after high prices, the rate fell and many sold below the earlier peak. The MSP and PSS procurement are the safety net, so register even if you hope to sell in the open market.

Pod borer can quietly cut tur profit if you ignore it at flowering. The cost of two timely sprays or bird perches is small against the loss it causes. I count the pod borer control as part of the cost when I judge whether tur paid me, and it still comes out well.

For us in the Telangana side, selling well dried and cleaned tur made a real price difference even in the open market. Buyers cut the rate for high moisture and trash. So profit is not only the MSP number, it is also how clean your produce is.

Storing tur safely let me sell a couple of months after harvest when arrivals thinned and the rate firmed up. But tur is prone to bruchid (storage) pest, so I dry it well and store in airtight bins; otherwise the loss wipes out any price gain. Hold only part of the stock as the market can also fall.
