How to control purple blotch and stemphylium blight in garlic (lehsun)?

My garlic leaves are getting purple and brown patches and drying from the tips. The bulbs are not sizing well. What is this?

Garlic and onion get the same leaf diseases, purple blotch caused by Alternaria and stemphylium blight, both of which give purplish brown patches, dry the leaves from the tips down, cut photosynthesis and shrink the bulbs. Manage them together with a mix of hygiene and sprays. Use clean seed and follow crop rotation away from onion and garlic, give proper spacing for air flow, and avoid evening or overhead irrigation that keeps leaves wet. Start protective fungicide sprays such as mancozeb when the disease appears or weather favours it, and switch to a recommended systemic like difenoconazole under high pressure, rotating groups to avoid resistance. Because allium leaves are waxy, add a sticker so the spray holds. Balanced nutrition with adequate potash and avoiding excess nitrogen reduces susceptibility. Follow label doses and waiting periods and confirm the schedule with your KVK.

Adding a sticker to the spray was the turning point for me. Garlic leaves are waxy and the spray just rolled off before, so it did nothing. With a wetting agent the fungicide held on the leaf and finally controlled the patches.

Avoiding evening watering helped in my cool, dewy field. When the leaves stayed wet through the night the blotch spread fast. Watering earlier in the day so the foliage dries before nightfall slowed it down a lot.
