Getting raw honey from my boxes but selling cheap. Want to know about extraction, moisture and storage for better rates.

Clean extraction, controlling moisture and proper storage are what let you sell honey at a better price instead of cheap raw rates. Harvest only well ripened, capped combs, extract with a clean honey extractor, then strain or filter to remove wax and debris. High moisture honey ferments and loses value, so harvest mature honey and store cool and dry; many buyers test moisture before pricing. Store strained honey in clean, food grade, airtight containers away from heat and sunlight, which also slows crystallisation. Avoid overheating honey as it damages quality. Getting honey tested at a recognised lab and proper grading and packing fetch a premium, and the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission has supported honey testing and processing facilities. Selling processed, tested, well packed honey, or through an FPO, usually beats selling raw to a middleman. Confirm testing and processing support options with your bee board or KVK.

I used to sell raw honey to a trader for low money. After I started straining, controlling moisture and bottling cleanly, I sell direct to customers for much more. Harvest only capped frames, unripe honey ferments and smells.

Do not overheat honey to make it flow, it spoils the quality and the smart buyers notice. Keep it in clean airtight jars in a cool dark place. Tested and labelled honey gets a better rate, our group got testing help through the honey mission.
