Hearing a lot about biofloc tanks for fish. Is it worth it for a small farmer?

Biofloc is a high-density tank-based system where beneficial microbes convert fish waste into protein-rich floc that fish can eat, saving feed and water. It can give high production in small space and suits species like tilapia, pangasius and some carps. However, it needs constant aeration (so reliable power or a backup is essential), careful daily monitoring of water quality (ammonia, pH, dissolved oxygen) and good technical skill; a power or management failure can kill the whole stock fast. Investment per tank is significant. It can be profitable but is risky for beginners; start small, get hands-on training first. I tried biofloc with two tanks. Returns were good but one night the aerator failed and I lost many fish. Keep a power backup and learn water testing before scaling up.
Check whether the species you want has a good market near you before building tanks. Tilapia did well technically for me but local buyers preferred carp, so I had to sell cheap. The system means nothing if the fish does not sell at a good rate locally.
Before going to expensive tanks, I would tell a beginner to learn pond fish farming first. Biofloc punishes small mistakes hard. A neighbour ran tanks for a year with steady profit only because he already knew water and fish well from years of pond culture.
Power cost itself can eat your margin if electricity is costly or unreliable. The blowers run almost non-stop. Work out your monthly running cost honestly, not just the setup cost, before deciding it is profitable.
