Ivy gourd (tindora, kundru) is a perennial cucurbit propagated by stem cuttings from a good female (fruiting) plant rather than seed, which gives an early uniform crop and avoids unwanted male plants. Plant cuttings in the warm season, commonly around February to March or with the early monsoon, on well drained soil, spacing the plants and training the vines on a strong trellis or pandal since it is a vigorous climber that fruits for several years. Keep mostly female fruiting vines with a few male vines for pollination. Once established it bears for a long period with light pruning to keep it productive. Confirm the recommended planting material and trellis method for your area with your KVK or the local horticulture office.

Use cuttings from a known female plant, not seed, so you get fruiting vines and not useless males. A strong pandal because it climbs hard and fruits for years. It is a low effort long term crop once set up.

Tindora keeps fruiting for years from one planting, so the trellis must be sturdy. Light pruning keeps the new fruiting shoots coming. It handles heat well here in Telangana.
