How do I control aphids and pod borer in cowpea (lobia)?

Black aphids cluster on tender shoots, flowers and pods of cowpea, suck sap and can spread virus, while pod borer caterpillars bore into pods. For aphids, encourage natural enemies like ladybird beetles, knock them down with a strong water spray on small plots, use yellow sticky traps, and spray a recommended insecticide only when they build up. For pod borer, scout at flowering and podding and spray only on crossing the threshold. Because cowpea pods and grain are eaten, follow the label dose and respect the pre harvest interval, and rotate molecules to avoid resistance.
