Should I just sell alsi seed or try making roasted alsi and powder for a better margin?

Value addition can improve margins but it adds work, cost and responsibility. To sell roasted alsi or alsi powder or laddoo type products you need clean food grade seed, hygienic roasting and grinding, proper packing, a brand or label, and for organised selling the right food safety registration like FSSAI. Powder also goes rancid faster, so storage and shelf life matter. For one small farmer the volumes are usually too low to make a brand pay, so the better route is often through an FPO or self help group that can pool seed, process together and sell under one label. Start small, sell locally to test demand, and only scale once you have steady buyers. Confirm food licensing requirements before selling packed products.
Our SHG makes alsi laddoo and powder. Together it works, alone it would not have. The packing and licence part took effort.
