Which flax (alsi) variety gives good yield and how much per acre can I expect?

There are several improved linseed varieties released by ICAR and state universities, and the right one depends on your state and whether you are rainfed or irrigated, so ask your KVK or state agriculture university for the currently recommended variety rather than picking an old name. On yield, rainfed alsi commonly gives a modest yield in the range of about 3 to 6 quintal per acre, while with assured irrigation and good management it can go higher. Use certified seed, treat seed before sowing, and keep proper plant population. Because alsi often grows on residual moisture, one or two timely irrigations at flowering and capsule formation can lift yield noticeably where water is available.
