Is there a guaranteed buyer or mandi for Safed Musli before I plant it?

A dealer is offering me Safed Musli seed tubers and says he will buy back the dry roots. Want to know if there is a real market before I spend money.

Be very careful here. Safed Musli has a genuine market with Ayurvedic and nutraceutical firms, but it is also one of the most mis-sold buyback crops in India. There is no government mandi and no fixed price. Many farmers were sold costly planting tubers on a buyback promise, then the buyer vanished or rejected the produce on quality grounds. Rule for you: do not buy planting material from the same person promising buyback. Get the buyer name, the price per kg of dry peeled musli, the moisture and recovery standards, and the quantity they will lift, all in writing on a stamped agreement before you plant. Then independently call two or three processors or traders in Tikamgarh, Chhindwara or near pharma hubs and confirm they are actually buying this season. Dry peeled musli can fetch a wide range depending on quality and year, so treat any high number quoted to you as unverified until you confirm it yourself.

I lost money on exactly this trap. The seed tubers were sold to me at a very high rate and the buyback rate they promised was never honoured. They said my musli was below grade. Verify the buyer first, never trust the seed seller as the buyer.

Market is real but you must reach the processor or a known commission agent dealing in jadi booti. Peeling and drying quality decides your price. Cheap unpeeled musli sells for very little.
