Yes, staking pays for itself in better quality and fewer losses, especially for indeterminate and tall hybrids. Keeping plants off the ground reduces fruit rot and soil borne disease, improves air circulation and sunlight, makes spraying and picking easier, and gives cleaner, more uniform, higher grade fruit that fetches better rates. Common methods are single stakes with twine, or a stake and wire trellis where plants are tied to horizontal wires as they grow. Put stakes in early, soon after transplanting, before plants sprawl, and tie loosely with soft twine so stems are not cut. Combine staking with pruning of lower leaves and side shoots in indeterminate types for airflow. Determinate bush types need less support but still benefit from light staking.

Staking clearly cut my fruit rot. The sprawling unstaked rows had fruit lying on wet soil that rotted and got dirty, while the staked rows gave clean fruit that graded higher at the market.

Put the stakes in early, that is the trick. I waited once till the plants were already sprawling and tying them up then damaged stems and was a lot more work. Staking soon after transplant is much easier.
