The plant draws large amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and it is unusually sensitive to calcium, which is why blossom end rot is so common in poorly managed fields. The right approach is to feed in splits rather than one big dose, match the supply to the growth stage, and lean on organic manure to hold moisture and nutrients in the root zone. Hybrids need more than open-pollinated types. Always treat the numbers below as a starting range and adjust them to your own Soil Health Card or a fresh soil test, and confirm local rates with your nearest KVK, because soil type, season and variety all change the requirement.

Recommended NPK dose for Tomato

For open-pollinated tomato a common recommendation is roughly 100 to 120 kg N, 50 to 60 kg P2O5 and 50 to 60 kg K2O per hectare, which works out to about 40 to 48 kg N, 20 to 24 kg P2O5 and 20 to 24 kg K2O per acre. Hybrids are far hungrier and may need 180 to 200 kg N, 80 to 100 kg P2O5 and 80 to 100 kg K2O per hectare, or about 72 to 80 kg N, 32 to 40 kg P2O5 and 32 to 40 kg K2O per acre. Because tomato is a heavy feeder these ranges run high, but the only reliable guide is your Soil Health Card or a recent soil test.
