I keep hearing about tractor subsidy but do not know how to actually apply. What is the general process to get a tractor subsidy?

Tractor and farm machinery subsidies mostly come through central schemes like SMAM and your state's own farm machinery scheme, applied online on the state agriculture portal. The general flow is: register on the state portal (for example state specific Kisan portals or the e farm machinery sites), apply for the tractor or implement category with your details and documents (Aadhaar, land records, bank account, caste certificate if claiming category benefit), and because demand is high, many states allot through a lottery or first come basis. If selected, you get a permit or token, buy from an approved dealer, upload the bill and get the subsidy as DBT into your bank account or as a price reduction, depending on the scheme. Subsidy percentage differs by category (small, marginal, SC, ST, women often get higher). The exact portal, documents, subsidy rate and timing vary by state and year, so confirm the current process with your district agriculture office before applying.
In my state it went to a lottery. Apply early when the portal opens and keep all documents ready and matching your bank and land records.
Buy only from an approved dealer listed on the portal, otherwise the subsidy claim can get rejected.
