I want to export Alphonso and Kesar mango. Should I send by air or sea and how do I keep the fruit good till it reaches.

Mango export uses both air and sea depending on the market and variety. Air freight reaches in a day or two and suits premium, perishable Alphonso to nearby and high-value markets, but it is expensive and limited in volume. Sea freight in a reefer container is cheaper for larger volumes to far markets, but the fruit must be harvested at the right maturity, pre-cooled, and shipped at controlled temperature so it ripens on arrival, not before. Many destinations require a specific pest treatment: for example some markets need hot water treatment, vapour heat treatment, or irradiation against fruit fly, done at an APEDA approved facility, plus a phytosanitary certificate. The USA needs irradiation, Japan and some others need vapour heat treatment, so confirm the exact treatment your target country mandates. You also need IEC, APEDA registration and proper grading and packing. Work with an APEDA recognised packhouse and treatment facility, and an experienced mango exporter, especially for your first season.

Harvest maturity is everything for sea shipment. Too ripe and it spoils on the way, too raw and it never ripens well. Get the picking stage right with your exporter.

Different countries need different treatments. USA wants irradiation, some want vapour heat. You must use an approved facility, you cannot just pack and ship mango to those markets.

Air is fast but costly, only the best grade fruit justifies it. We send top grade Alphonso by air and the rest by sea or domestic.
