Summer moong in western UP is best sown from mid March to mid April, right after wheat or potato harvest, so the crop matures before the monsoon arrives. Use a short duration variety such as IPM 02-3, IPM 02-14, Samrat or SML 668 that matures in about 60 to 65 days. Seed rate is around 12 to 15 kg per hectare with row spacing of 30 cm. Treat seed with fungicide and then Rhizobium culture for better nodulation. Summer moong needs 3 to 5 light irrigations as there is no rain. As a short pulse it fixes nitrogen and fits well between wheat and the next kharif crop. Confirm variety choice with your local KVK.

I take summer moong every year after wheat in Meerut. Sowing by end of March worked best for me; if I delay to late April the crop catches early rains at harvest and quality drops.

After moong I do not burn or remove the residue, I incorporate it. The root nodules and leftover plant matter clearly improved my next paddy crop and I cut some urea. Treat summer moong as both a cash crop and a soil builder between the two main crops.

Watch the irrigation timing in the heat. The critical stages are flowering and pod filling, and if water is short there cut yield badly for me. I give a light irrigation rather than a heavy flood so the field does not get waterlogged in the hot weather, which moong dislikes.
