How do I control birds and store little millet (kutki) without losses?

Bird damage is a real problem in small millets like kutki because the grain ripens when other feed is scarce, so use scaring methods like bird scarers, reflective tape and watching the field at the grain filling and ripening stage, and harvest promptly once mature rather than leaving the crop standing. After harvest, thresh and dry the grain well, since kutki and other small millets store remarkably well for long periods when dry and kept in clean airtight containers, resisting storage pests better than many cereals. Keep the storage clean of old infested grain and inspect periodically. For larger lots ask your KVK about recommended storage practices. Prompt harvest and good drying solve most of the loss.
