The good news is that the foundational precision farming skills are learnable and do not require being a technologist. The core ones are: understanding soil test reports and translating them into the right fertiliser doses for your field instead of blanket application; managing drip and fertigation, knowing how to schedule water and dissolve and deliver nutrients precisely; reading and acting on weather and pest and disease advisories so operations are timed right; and basic record keeping so you can compare what works across seasons. As you go further, comfort with using a smartphone app for advisory and market information, and the judgement to interpret data from soil moisture sensors or drone imagery, become useful. The key skill underneath all of it is the discipline to act on information rather than habit, that is what turns data into savings and yield. You do not need to master high-tech gear to begin. Start by learning to fertilise by soil test and run fertigation well, then add tools as you grow. Your KVK and state agriculture department often run training on these basics and can guide what suits your crops.
Learning to read my soil test and feed accordingly was the single most useful skill. No fancy tech, just acting on the report instead of guessing.
