Choosing tilapia strain and legality.

Improved strains like GIFT (Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia) and other monosex all male tilapia grow faster and more uniformly than ordinary tilapia, and monosex male stock avoids the uncontrolled breeding that stunts a pond. This is why farmers prefer approved improved strains. The important point is that tilapia farming is regulated in India, since some tilapia are treated as invasive, so you must use only the approved strains and farm them with the required permission. Buy seed only from government approved or licensed hatcheries. Before stocking, confirm with your state Fisheries department which tilapia strains are legally allowed in your state and what permission you need, because the rules differ and farming unapproved tilapia can lead to action.
Monosex GIFT grew fast and even for me. The all male stock stopped the pond from filling with tiny offspring. Check your state rules and buy only approved seed though.
