Is Reishi (Ganoderma) farming profitable and is it good for a beginner?

Please be careful here. Reishi or Ganoderma is a medicinal mushroom that can fetch a high price, but it is capital heavy, slow, and very market access dependent, which makes it a poor first crop for a beginner. The big problem is the market, not the growing. Reishi is sold mostly as a dried medicinal product to specialised herbal, nutraceutical and export buyers, and there is no ready local mandi for it, so without a confirmed genuine buyer you can grow it and not be able to sell it at a good price. Be very cautious of anyone promoting Reishi or Ganoderma with attractive buyback promises, as the mushroom sector has seen scam style buyback offers where people are sold costly spawn or kits and the promised purchase never materialises on fair terms. Growing it needs sterilised substrate, a long cycle and good hygiene, similar in difficulty to shiitake. Learn on oyster first, and only consider Reishi after you independently verify a real buyer and real prices. Consult DMR Solan and your KVK before investing any money.
