Pecan is a temperate to warm temperate nut tree and has only limited cultivation in India, mainly in cooler hill regions such as parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some Jammu and Kashmir pockets where the climate suits. It needs a suitable winter chilling and a long warm growing season to fill the nuts, so it does not perform in the hot humid plains. It is a large, long lived tree with a long gestation before good bearing. Commercial scale and organised buyer networks in India are still small. If your area genuinely fits, plant grafted named varieties and arrange cross pollination, and plan for many non earning early years.
