Hazelnut typically takes several years to start bearing, often around 4 to 6 years for first nuts and longer for full yield, and it generally needs cross pollination, so you must plant compatible pollinizer varieties together rather than a single type alone. Wind carries the pollen, so layout matters. Since India lacks a proven commercial hazelnut sector, matched pollinizer combinations and tested local recommendations are hard to get. Only attempt it in a genuinely suitable cold climate, source named compatible varieties from a recognised temperate research nursery, and treat the early years as non earning. Verify variety choice, pollination pairing and spacing with a temperate horticulture institute before planting.

Cross pollination is the catch with many nut and fruit trees, one variety alone just flowers and gives little. Always ask which two or three varieties to plant together.
