Can tulip be grown commercially as a cut flower in India and what does it need?

Tulip is a cool climate bulb crop and in India it is realistic mainly in cold hill areas like Kashmir and parts of Himachal, or under controlled cold conditions, because it needs a proper chilling period and cool growing temperatures. It is grown from imported bulbs that are usually pre cooled, and like lilium each bulb gives essentially one flowering stem, so bulb cost drives the economics. The commercial cut flower window in India is narrow and the market is niche, much of the tulip you see is in display gardens rather than large scale cut flower trade. If you are in a genuinely cold area and have a buyer, it can work, but treat it as a specialist crop.
