Hydroponic systems most often grow loose-leaf, butterhead, oakleaf and romaine type lettuces, which mature fast and suit continuous harvest, rather than tight iceberg, which is slower and fussier. Many growers use pelleted seed for easier handling in plugs. Source seed from reputable vegetable seed companies or specialist hydroponic suppliers, often imported genetics, and keep the bill and tag. Pick varieties known to do well in warm climates and resist bolting, and match the type to what your buyers want, often a mix of green and red loose-leaf for salad packs. Confirm suitable varieties with other hydroponic growers and your KVK.

Loose-leaf and romaine work much better than iceberg in my NFT setup. I use pelleted seed in plugs and grow a mix of green and red since the salad buyers want both.
