Red cabbage heads are often a bit smaller and the crop can yield somewhat less than green cabbage, with yields falling in a range that varies by variety and spacing, so plan conservatively. The trade-off is the premium price the coloured heads earn in the city channel, which can make the lower tonnage still worthwhile if you have the right buyer. Because it is a premium line with limited demand, match your area to your buyer rather than chasing maximum tonnage. Verify the realistic yield and current premium with your KVK and your buyer before deciding how much to plant.

My red cabbage heads are a little smaller than green and a touch slower, but the better rate makes up for it. I just never plant more than I have orders for.
