Asparagus is a niche, long-term crop in India and not for everyone. It takes a couple of years after planting before you get a proper harvest, then the bed can produce for many years. Demand is narrow and premium: upscale hotels, fine-dining restaurants, some exporters and high-end retail in big cities, so it is firmly a contract or specialist crop, not a mandi vegetable. Prices for fresh spears can be high when you have a buyer, but the market is thin and easily oversupplied. Grow it only with a clear buyer plan, patience for the establishment years, and after talking to your KVK and anyone growing it nearby.

Asparagus needs patience. I planted and waited before any real cutting, and I only sell to two hotel suppliers. Without those buyers I would never have planted it.

It is a long game crop. The bed lasts years once set, but the first couple of years you spend money and get almost nothing back, so be ready for that.
