Honest view: is Miyazaki mango actually worth growing in India?

Miyazaki is the Japanese brand name (Taiyo no Tamago) for premium fruit of the Irwin variety, grown in Japan under very intensive greenhouse conditions with hand pollination, fruit netting, sugar testing and strict grading, which is why select pieces fetch very high prices at auction in Japan. The widely shared claims of lakhs per single mango refer to those auction-grade Japanese fruit, not what an ordinary Indian field-grown fruit will sell for. Treat those viral prices as marketing, not a realistic income plan. In India, Irwin/Miyazaki can grow as a red-skinned ornamental and table mango, but field-grown fruit here will sell at premium table or novelty rates, not Japanese auction rates, and the eating quality of many Indian top varieties like Alphonso, Kesar and Mallika is arguably equal or better. Plant material is often expensive and sometimes mislabelled. Risks: high plant cost, uncertain true-to-type material, no established Indian market premium near the hype, and the red colour needs good sun. Bottom line: it is fine to trial a few plants as a curiosity or for a niche red mango, but do not plant a commercial orchard expecting viral prices. Build your real income on proven, market-tested varieties and treat Miyazaki as a small experiment, not a get-rich plan. Always verify the actual local selling rate before investing.
