Chilli thrips management leaf curl murda disease Telangana spray schedule.

Thrips suck sap from the underside of leaves and cause upward leaf curl, the condition farmers call murda. Start with a clean nursery and remove early curled plants. Use yellow and blue sticky traps at about 15 to 20 per acre to monitor. Spray on need basis rotating different chemical groups to avoid resistance; commonly recommended actives include fipronil, spinosad and cyantraniliprole, alternated rather than repeated. Add neem oil based sprays in mild infestation. Avoid blanket repeated use of one molecule which made thrips resistant in many fields. Keep weeds down as they host thrips, and maintain plant vigour with balanced nutrition. Note that black thrips outbreaks need updated advisories, so confirm the current recommended molecules with your local KVK or horticulture office.
In my Warangal field rotating sprays helped more than spraying the same thing again and again. Sticky traps near the border rows showed me the build up early so I could act before curl spread.
The black thrips problem that hit chilli a few seasons back behaved differently from the usual thrips, so old sprays did not work well. Our KVK in Telangana kept updating the advisory through the season. My advice is to attend the local crop advisory meetings and not assume last year's spray plan still applies.
