I want to make my single acre give income all year by mixing crops, some animals and maybe fish. How do I plan such an integrated model?

An integrated farming system on one acre links crops, livestock, fish and trees so the waste of one becomes input for another and you earn from several sources through the year. A common layout devotes part of the land to a pond for fish, part to crops and vegetables, a small area to a few animals like goats, poultry or a couple of dairy animals, and borders to fruit or fodder trees. Animal dung feeds compost and the pond, pond water and silt irrigate and enrich the field, and crop residues feed the animals. This spreads risk and gives daily, monthly and seasonal income, but it needs planning and steady labour. Start with two or three components you can manage, then add more. Your KVK often has tested one acre integrated models for your region; use them as a guide.

On my one acre I started with just a small pond, vegetables and a few goats, then added more once I could manage it. The goat dung feeds the field and pond and I sell fish, vegetables and goats at different times for year round income. Start with two or three parts, not everything at once.

On my one acre I keep a small pond, vegetables and a few goats. The goat dung goes to the field and pond, and I sell fish, vegetables and goats at different times. The mix gives me income all year instead of one harvest.

The integrated model spreads risk well but it needs steady labour, so be honest about the time you have. I nearly overreached by adding too many components early. Use the KVK's tested one acre layout for your region as a starting guide rather than inventing your own.
