There is demand for Bengal mango abroad. Can Himsagar be exported successfully, and what are the main hurdles given how soft it is?

Himsagar is exported in small quantities and has been promoted from Malda, mainly by air to markets in the Gulf, Europe and the UK that appreciate aromatic Indian mangoes. The main hurdles are its softness and short shelf life, which make sea shipment hard and push it toward costlier air freight; strict residue limits, especially for the EU and UK, meaning you must follow safe spray schedules with correct pre-harvest intervals and get residue testing; mandatory phytosanitary treatment such as hot water or vapour heat as the destination requires; and registered orchard and packhouse compliance. Cold chain and very careful handling are essential because bruised soft fruit will not pass inspection. Work through a recognised exporter or APEDA-registered packhouse, and start with small trial consignments. The premium can be good but the logistics cost and rejection risk are higher than for firmer varieties.
Air freight is the only practical way for Himsagar abroad, and that cost is high. Residue testing is non negotiable for Europe, a friend lost a consignment over it.
