Black rot is a bacterial disease of cole crops that shows as yellow V shaped lesions starting from the leaf margin, with the veins inside turning black, and stems may show a black ring when cut. It spreads through infected seed, splashing water and tools, and worsens in warm wet weather. Use disease free or hot water treated seed, raise a clean nursery, practise crop rotation away from cole crops for 2 to 3 years, and remove and destroy infected plants and debris. Avoid working in the field when leaves are wet to limit spread. There is no good chemical cure once it is severe, so prevention is key; confirm seed treatment and rotation plan with your KVK.

Black rot ruined a block of my cabbage after a wet spell. Now I avoid moving through the field when leaves are wet and rotate with other crops, which helped.

One caution I follow now: never work the field when the leaves are wet. I used to walk through after rain and spread it down the rows, staying out till the canopy dries helped a lot.
