Brinjal shoot and fruit borer first bores into tender shoots, which wilt and droop, then into fruits, leaving exit holes, so the key is an IPM package rather than calendar spraying. Install pheromone traps at recommended numbers per acre to monitor and mass trap the moths, and regularly clip off and destroy wilting bored shoots and infested fruit, which removes the larvae directly. Growing brinjal under an insect net house greatly cuts attack by keeping moths out. Conserve natural enemies and use recommended biopesticides at the early stage. If spraying, rotate modes of action and strictly follow label and pre harvest interval since fruit is picked often. Confirm trap density and approved products with your KVK.

In Nadia clipping the drooping bored shoots twice a week and using pheromone traps cut my brinjal borer sprays by more than half. Removing infested fruit early also dropped the next round of damage.

Clipping the drooping shoots twice a week and using pheromone traps cut my borer sprays by more than half. The bored fruit also dropped a lot once I started removing affected shoots early.

A tip: growing brinjal under an insect net house kept most moths out for me. The net cost something but my sprays and bored fruit both came down a lot.

I put up the pheromone traps at the number per acre the KVK suggested and they really cut the moths. Without enough traps it did not do much, getting the density right was the difference.

Since the fruit is picked so often I gave up calendar spraying and went to the trap and shoot clipping package. When I do need a spray I rotate modes of action and keep to the label pre harvest interval, never close to picking.
