EC (electrical conductivity) measures soluble salts; a reading around 1.2 dS/m in the standard soil water extract is generally in the normal to slightly saline range and most crops will grow, though very sensitive crops can show mild stress. As a rough guide many labs treat below 1 dS/m as safe, 1 to 2 as slightly saline, 2 to 4 as moderately saline, and above 4 as a real problem. If your EC climbs, prefer salt tolerant crops like barley, mustard, cotton, and salt tolerant wheat, and improve drainage so salts leach down. Watch your irrigation water EC too, because saline water raises soil EC over time. Confirm interpretation against your Soil Health Card and local KVK and do not over apply gypsum or amendments without a soil test.

At 1.2 you are mostly fine, but please also get your irrigation water tested. My soil EC kept rising every year and it turned out the tubewell water was salty. The soil was just collecting the salt the water left behind. Fixing the water source mattered more than treating the soil.

We farm in a slightly salty belt and barley and mustard never let us down. Sensitive crops like beans and onion struggle when the patch gets a bit salty. Choosing the right crop for the field is cheaper than fighting the salt.

A small caution: do not start dumping gypsum just because you saw the word EC. Gypsum is for sodic soil, not plain saline soil. At 1.2 dS/m you do not need any amendment, just keep your drainage open so rain can wash salts down. Wasting money on gypsum here is a common mistake.
