My village yield was poor but claim was small. I heard the payout depends on crop cutting experiments. I want to understand the process.

Under PMFBY the main claim for yield loss is decided not plot by plot but by the average yield of your insurance unit, usually a village or village panchayat, measured through Crop Cutting Experiments. Officials harvest the crop from a fixed-size sample plot at several random locations, weigh the produce, and average it to get the actual yield of the unit. This is compared with the guaranteed or threshold yield, which is based on past average yield and an indemnity level, and if the actual is lower, every insured farmer in that unit gets a claim in proportion to the shortfall. Because it is an area average, an individual whose own field did badly can get a small claim if the village average was decent, and the reverse can also happen. You can ask your agriculture office for the CCE schedule and request to witness the cutting; report any wrong location or careless harvesting on the spot. Confirm the current CCE rules and indemnity levels with your insurance company or agriculture office.
Maine ek baar CCE dekha tha, plot accha wala chuna gaya tha jahan fasal achhi thi. Maine officer ko bola ki kharab wala bhi lo. Witness rehna chahiye warna average galat ho jata hai.
A practical tip: ask your agriculture office in advance for the CCE schedule for your village so you can be present. When I attended I noted the plot location and the weight myself. If the sampling looks wrong, raise it on the spot and in writing, later complaints are harder.
