The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) is a financing facility for post-harvest and community farming infrastructure such as warehouses, cold storage, grading and sorting units, primary processing, and custom hiring centres. A wide range of borrowers are eligible, including individual farmers, FPOs, PACS, cooperatives, SHGs, agri-entrepreneurs, startups, and certain government and PPP projects. The main benefit is an interest subvention of 3 percent per year on loans, available up to a loan amount of Rs 2 crore per project, for a number of years, along with credit guarantee support for eligible borrowers. Apply through the AIF portal where your project is linked to a lending bank; the bank appraises it like a normal term loan. Confirm current ceilings and tenure on the official portal.
Hamare gaon ke kuch logon ne milke AIF ka loan le ke ek godown banaya. 3 percent interest subvention milta hai jo normal loan se kafi sasta pad gaya. Bank ne project ko aam term loan jaise dekha, to project report theek se banwana zaroori hai.
A point many miss: AIF is for post-harvest and community infrastructure like warehouses, cold storage, grading units and custom hiring centres, not for buying land or general farm expenses. I wasted time on a wrong proposal first. Match your project to the eligible activity list before applying on the portal.
One practical thing in our case was getting a proper detailed project report made before approaching the bank, because AIF loans are appraised like a normal term loan. A weak project report got us a slow response at first. Once we had a solid DPR with realistic numbers, the bank moved faster and the interest subvention applied on approval.
FPOs, PACS, SHGs and agri-entrepreneurs are all eligible, not just individual farmers, so a group project can share the cost. We applied as a group and linked it to our lending bank through the AIF portal. Confirm the current loan ceiling and tenure on the official portal since these can change.
