For localised risks like hailstorm, landslide, inundation and cloudburst, PMFBY allows individual farm-level claims, but you must report the damage quickly, generally within 72 hours of the event. The fastest way is through the Crop Insurance app or the PMFBY portal, where you enter your policy and crop details and the location of damage; you can also inform your bank, the insurance company toll-free number, or the agriculture department. Note the date and time of the event and take photos of the damaged field. After intimation, a surveyor from the insurance company visits to assess the loss and the claim is calculated on that basis. Keep your application number and intimation acknowledgement safe for follow-up.
Mainne hailstorm ke baad app pe turant report kar diya tha, surveyor aaya aur dekh ke gaya. Time pe report karna zaroori hai warna claim nahi milta.
A pitfall many of us hit: do not clear or replough the damaged field before the surveyor visits. I was in a hurry to replant and removed the damaged crop, and the surveyor could not assess properly. Leave the field as it is and take dated photos with the crop standing.
