For the 2026-27 season the MSP is Rs 8,267 per quintal for medium staple cotton and Rs 8,667 per quintal for long staple cotton (kapas, seed cotton basis). The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is the central nodal agency that buys cotton at MSP when mandi prices fall below it, through registered procurement centres. To sell at MSP, bring clean, dry, properly graded kapas with low moisture, and carry your land record and ID for registration. If market price is above MSP, you can sell to private traders or ginners for more. Confirm the exact rate and nearest CCI centre for your area before selling, since centres open as per arrivals.
One practical tip, moisture decides whether CCI accepts your lot at the centre. Sun dry the kapas a day before taking it and avoid early morning loading when it is damp. Last season my first cart was rejected for high moisture, the second dry lot went through at the support price without trouble.
